Abstract
Bezoars are known as the conglomerates of undigested materials found in gastriontestinal tract. They may be classified as follows: 1. Trichobezoras(hair balls), 2. Phytobezoars, which consist of vegtable materials, 3. Trichophytobezoars and 4. Other concretions of various ingested chemical substances. Bezoars are unusual causes of obstruction of small bowel including duodenum. Recently, authors experienced a case with three phytobezoars, which resided in stomach, 1st and 3rd protion of duodenum, accompanied by acute cholecystitis and duodenal obstruction. As the treatment, we performed cholecystectomy and squeezed out all the bezoars through anterior wall gastrotomy near the gastric antrum. We infer that hypertrophic mucosal changes by chronic irritation to the duodenal mucosa around the ampulla of Vater by a movable intraduodenal beoar cased partial obstruction of the common bile duct, which attributed to acute cholecystitis. A brief review of the literature in regard to the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of this condition was done.
